Ugly Custard (1970)

Clem Cattini - Drums
Roger Coulham - Keyboards
Herbie Flowers - Bass
Alan Parker - Guitar

Rok 1970. Wówczas nie nagrywało się słabych płyt. Czterech ludzi, znanych z innych grup (Herbie Flowers - Hungry Wolf, Rumplestiltskin, Panhandle, Blue Mink, CCS, T. Rex, Sky; Clem Cattini - The Tornados, The Birds, Johnny Kidd and The Pirates, The Jeff Beck Group, Hungry Wolf, Rumplestiltskin, Apollo 100; Alan Parker - Hungry Wolf, Rumplestiltskin, Blue Mink, CCS; Roger Coulham - Blue Mink), dostało propozycję 'szybkiej kasy': trzeba natychmiast nagrać płytę, bo studio ma przestój i zostało trochę wolnej taśmy po ostatniej sesji... Nieprawdopodobne! Głównie z powodu tego CO nagrali. Osiem utworów, częściowo własnych, częściowo covery. 39 minut muzyki a właściwie rorimprowizowanego szaleństwa z hammondem i gitarą w rolach głównych. Wspaniały, dynamiczny, żywiołowy i niestety kompletnie zapomniany album. Polecam wszystkim miłośnikom dobrej, starej muzy. (Aleksander Król)

This is an impressive crew of studio/session musicians, embarking on what could have been the umpteenth boring exploitation album. Luckily, it turns out to be surprisingly good. Side one of this all-instrumental LP is made up of covers of songs like "Scarboro' Fair", "My Babe" and Stephen Stills' "Hung Upside Down", while side two comprises Parker originals. Strangely enough, side one is actually better, pairing imaginative arranging with expert playing. Not as good or disturbing as the similarly-inclined Blue Phantom on the same label, this is nonetheless listenable, though nothing very special. Alan Parker was also involved in Blue Mink and Hungry Wolf and made a solo album in 1970 too. (Tapestry Of Delights)
