Salt Lick
Zainspirowany przez Conradino z zaprzyjaźnionej Magivangi, który przypomniał zupełnie nieznany mi wczesny singiel ZZ Top postanowiłem zaprezentować go na Savagesaints. Nagrania wydano po rozwiązaniu grupy Moving Sidewalks tuż przed zawiązaniem oryginalnego składu ZZ Top, który znany jest po dziś dzień. Wzięli w nich udział (tak mi się wydaje): Billy Gibbons - guitar, vocal, Lanier Greig - keyboards i Dan Mitchell - drums. W nagraniach słychać echa brzmienia - moim zdaniem jednego z najciekawszych zespołów, czyli The Moving Sidewalks i próbę "nowego" podejścia, czyli tego co możemy usłyszeć na kolejnych albumach firmowanych jako ZZ Top.
Miller's Farm
When the Moving Sidewalks parted ways in 1969, Gibbons sought to form a more boogie/blues rock-based band. He hooked up with Billy Etheridge from Dallas and Lanier Greig. ZZTop soon got together and cut the first single, “Salt Lick” b/w “Miller’s Farm,” launched in-house with Scat Records. At the time when the ZZ single began taking off and the gigs started rolling in, there was an important change in the ZZ Top lineup….namely Mr. Frank Beard and his bandmate, Mr. Dusty Hill. A pivotal part of the trio has always been the upside-down style of the band…very low guitar and a lead-like bass, tethered together with rattly percussion.
